Choice Bro’s win in the Group Three 2YO Classic at Taranaki on Saturday continued the trend of Damon Gabbedy of Belmont Bloodstock purchasing dams of stakes winners for long-term client Ron Sayers of Yarradale Stud.
Last year three mares that Damon purchased for Yarradale Stud; La Melba, Verse and Leica Vista amazingly all had progeny achieve stakes-winning status within a 3 week period.
Choice Bro (Choisir x Ladidi) won the Group 3 impressively narrowly defeating the Karaka Million winner Ockham’s Razor whom he finished fourth behind in the Karaka Million.
A $50,000 purchase at the 2011 Karaka Select sale, Choice Bro has now won 2 races from 4 starts and over $90,000 in prize money.
Trainer John Sargent said that Choice Bro is a stallion prospect and will likely step up to Group One Level at his next start in the Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes.
Belmont Bloodstock purchased Ladidi (Palace Music x Idol Worship) in foal to Dubawi for $18,000 at the Inglis Easter Broodmare sale in 2010 which now looks a real bargain.
Interestingly enough Ron Sayers used to own Ladidi. He purchased her as a yearling and then sold her after she produced her first foal but was always keen on the family as he also acquired her dam Idol Worship towards the end of her breeding career. After Idol Worship died ion 2009, he jumped at the chance to get back into the family which has proven to be an astute decision.
Choice Bro is one of four winners, but the first stakes-winner for Ladidi who is a half-sister to stakes-winner Cult Figure, the dam of stakes-winner Cargo Cult.
The Dubawi filly will be offered for sale at the Yarradale Stud annual yearling sale on May 6, 2012.
Ladidi has filly at foot by Yarradale stallion De Troy and is in foal to another Yarradale stallion, Scandal Keeper.
