Belmont Bloodstock Agency made its presence felt at the recent ARQANA Breeding stock sale held at Deauville purchasing seven horses and being the under bidder on the 2009 German Oaks winner Night Magic who was bought back by Haras des Capucines for €800,000.
Included amongst the lots purchased was 3yo filly DOWINGA (Hawk Wing – Sister Dot) a half sister to Grade 1 winner and proven Group 1 sire stallion Dehere (USA) and Sisterfromseattle (USA), the dam of this season’s Australian Group 2 winner Hanks.
Such is the depth of this pedigree that Sisterfromseattle and Hanks were not on the catalogue page so this is certainly a very nice update on a filly with a huge amount of upside.
Dowinga was purchased on behalf of Nathan Tinkler’s Patinack Farm and she will be coming to Australia where she will be covered by Patinack’s Group 1 winner Casino Prince.
Another high-profile purchase was the English Group 2 winner filly MADAME TROP VITE (3 f Invincible Spirit – Gladstone Street). Winner of the Flying Childers Stakes (Gr 2) at Doncaster in 2008, Madam Trop Vite was purchased on behalf of Wexford Farm and she too will return to the Hunter Valley where she may have a preparation before being sent to stud.
At the end of the breeding stock section of the Deauville August Sale, the gross finished up nearly 16 per cent on 512 lots sold. The all important average of 26,151 was up 4.4 pr cent with the median up a whopping 40 per cent to 14,000.
In keeping with the recent strong sales of bloodstock in Kentucky and England, the strength of the Australian dollar has certainly enabled buyers to get involved and with the different pedigrees available there are some particularly nice fillies coming back to Australia that can only be a positive thing for the local industry.
