13th March 2014
The Western Australian Breeders Classic Race (Listed) was won on Sunday (9th March) by promising three year old Stagnite, making it two consecutive wins in the race for Belmont Bloodstock purchases.
Stagnite is by Mungrup Studs’ impressive stallion Danehill Express out of the Zabeel mare Ladies Dancing. Stagnite was a $50,000 purchase by Belmont Bloodstock from the draft of Alwyn Park Stud on behalf of Keith Bigs at the Perth Yearling Sale in 2012. As a great moving, eye catching yearling it was no wonder he won in impressive fashion in Saturdays Breeders Classic. This was the first stakes win for the unbeaten Sharon Miller trained gelding making it 3 wins from 3 starts, indicating a very positive future.
An interesting fact about this race is last year’s winner Takanori (Vital Equine) is owned by the same syndicate, headed by lucky owners Neil Pinner and ex AFL star Tong Buhagiar, also trained by Sharon Miller and was a Belmont Bloodstock purchase. Belmont Bloodstock purchased Takanori for $52,000 from the draft of Gervase Park Stud at the Perth Yearling Sale in 2011.
