The Western Australian connection was right in the middle of all the action on Derby Day. Flemington was packed to the rafters with 110,000 enduring searing heat both on and off the track where only the toughest survived.
Outstanding galloper SCENIC SHOT cemented himself as one of the toughest gallopers at the highest level of Australian racing. Scenic Shot was bred by Robert and Ann Andersons’ boutique operation, Anita Vale and was the first foal out of their handy race mare Sweepshot. Scenic Shot was purchased as a yearling for $36,000 by Dan Morton.
What an astute purchase that has turned out to be with Scenic Shot notching his 15th race victory and pushes his earnings past the $2.4 million mark.
The prestigious VRC LKS MacKinnon Stakes was his second Group 1 victory after the BTC Doomben Cup.
All credit must go to Dan Morton who has established himself as one of the top conditioners of thoroughbreds in the world.
Long time clients and supporters of Belmont Bloodstock Agency, Robert and Ann Anderson who bred Scenic Shot, decided to reduce their broodmare numbers and enlisted me to sell Sweepshot for them as they have retained two of her daughters.
In foal to Blackfriars, she was quickly scooped up by Gray and Jan Williamson of Mungrup Stud. This has proven to be an inspired purchase as Scenic Shot has won two Group 1’s and four Group 2’s since the mare was purchased and one of the fillies retained by the Andersons’ is Flight Path a multiple city winner and stakes placed in the WATC Champion Fillies Stakes.
Congratulations go to both Anita Vale Thoroughbreds and Mungrup Stud.
Note: Mungrup Stud will offer a smashing colt by Blackfriars out of Sweepshot at next years WA yearling sale.
