ILLUSTRIOUS Tycoon lived up to the promise of his name with an impressive win after leading all the way in the WA Day Plate (1000m) on Saturday.

Having his first race start, after two trial wins, Illustrious Tycoon, was described as “very professional” by jockey Jarrad Noske.

Trainer Trevor Andrews described his two-year-old charge as an “exciting prospect” but is not sure whether to give him another start or turn him out.

A $120,000 yearling purchase by Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy at the 2016 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale, Illustrious Tycoon was Gabbedy’s “best on ground” at the sale.

Gabbedy purchased the son of boom sire Written Tycoon for long term supporter of Belmont Bloodstock, Brian Morris.

”Brian asked me which colt was my pick of the sale.  It was an easy answer as this colt was a standout physically.  He oozed quality and presence and was very athletic, had a deep girth, powerful hindquarter and great size and strength about him”. recalls Gabbedy.

“ I convinced Brian that you may as well buy the horse you love.”

Secured from the draft of Chris & Andrea Gales Gervase Park, Illustrious Tycoon is the fifth foal of unraced Pentire mare Illustre who is a three quarter to sister in blood to Pentastic and a half sister to Primus.
