The picture for this years Group 1 WATC Derby at Ascot on April 2 became a little clearer after the running of Saturday’s Listed JC Roberts Stakes (1800m) at Ascot, which was taken out by progressive galloper View The Stars.
The Galileo colt held off a host of rivals with Veracious and The Tenby Friar hitting the line locked together, but unable to gather in View The Stars, who lead all of the way.
Originally passed in as a yearling for $125,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale, View The Stars was subsequently purchased by Belmont Bloodstock for a group of clients including prominent owner and breeder Ron Sayers.
The Paul Jordan trained colt will most likely have one more run leading into next month’s Derby.
